There's a new gross-out comedy set in the Bay Area. It's terrible.
"Created by Nick Corirossi, the former head creative at Funny or Die, "The Napa Boys" follows a ragtag group of winehounds as they traverse Napa in their "Wine Wagon" SUV, adorned with a license plate that reads "IH8MERLOT." Led by Miles Jr. (Armen Weitzman) and Jack Jr. (Corirossi), the gang has been self-mythologized in a series of comic books written by Miles Jr. as rowdy vino drinkers who go on sex- and grape-crazed adventures."
"Although it's not unusual for a few critics to bail midway through a festival film, "The Napa Boys" earned more walkouts than laughs at the TIFF press screening. (Since duty called, I stayed for the entirety.) The movie feels like it was written by someone who has never actually been to Napa. One early scene featuring a grab bag of bodily functions and a wine barrel almost led me to gag, so I guess it achieved at least one of its goals."
The Napa Boys is a gross-out comedy created by Nick Corirossi that follows a ragtag group of winehounds traveling Napa in a "Wine Wagon" SUV with a license plate reading "IH8MERLOT." Miles Jr. (Armen Weitzman) and Jack Jr. (Corirossi) are depicted as self-mythologized comic-book vino drinkers who undertake sex- and grape-crazed adventures. A fledgling investigative reporter and a lawyer join a quest spurred by a magic amulet from a fabled sommelier played by DJ Qualls. A Great Grape Festival competition between essentially two wineries decides a farmer's fate. The film prompted multiple walkouts and relies on juvenile, American Pie-style humor.
