The Rock to co-author true crime book about Hawaii mob boss to be adapted by Martin Scorsese
Briefly

Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock, is collaborating with investigative journalist Nick Bilton to co-author a nonfiction book exploring Hawaii's crime syndicate, The Company, from the 1960s and 1970s. The untitled book will be published by Crown, Penguin House's imprint, and is set to inspire a film directed by Martin Scorsese. Johnson emphasized the personal nature of the story, aiming to honor Hawaiian heritage while shedding light on historical injustices faced by the community. With themes resonating with Scorsese's past works, this project combines elements of crime with cultural storytelling.
This isn't just a gangster story - it's about power, identity, and what was taken from the Hawaiian people. What drew me to this project wasn't just the action and the intensity.
The book will chronicle the extraordinary story of the rise and fall of Hawaii's most notorious crime syndicate, The Company, led by Wilford Nappy Pulawa.
Telling this story is a way to honor our Polynesian culture, and honor where we come from and share the untold history of what really happened in paradise.
Nick and I have worked on this for months now, with many more months of work ahead of us. This has already been such an unbelievable, inspiring and eye-opening experience.
