"We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for . But I'm gonna pass the torch on this one as director,"
"I'm going to produce it, with Ridley Scott, we're gonna produce it together, and we're right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in."
"I think that's usually what has happened, except for Ridley, filmmakers come, you make one and you pass the baton to the next one,"
Fede Álvarez confirmed a finished script exists for a sequel to Alien: Romulus but stated he will not direct the follow-up. Álvarez will produce the sequel alongside Ridley Scott and the pair are actively searching for a new filmmaker to take the director's chair. Álvarez framed the decision as consistent with a franchise pattern in which directors often helm a single entry before handing the baton to the next filmmaker. Alien: Romulus, set between Alien and Aliens, was seen as a return to the series' grimy, paranoid tone, and the sequel will now be entrusted to new directorial leadership.
