"Shia went off to the back of this gymnasium we were in and he was just by himself doing some kind of tai chi-like movements,"
"So I had my iPhone and I said, 'Do you mind if I film you?' And he said, 'No, no, go ahead.' Over the first couple of days, he was the first person I made any kind of relationship with at all."
"biggest pain in my fucking ass of anyone I've ever worked with."
Mike Figgis met Shia LaBeouf on the Megalopolis set while filming a behind-the-scenes documentary and filmed LaBeouf practicing tai chi during a lunch break. LaBeouf became a central figure in Megadoc because of passionate, sometimes tense interactions with director Francis Ford Coppola. Coppola reportedly told LaBeouf he was the "biggest pain in my fucking ass of anyone I've ever worked with." LaBeouf plays the jealous cousin of Adam Driver's architect in Megalopolis. Figgis admired LaBeouf after learning Figgis had directed Leaving Las Vegas, and Figgis expressed interest in making a movie with LaBeouf.
