The Morning Show creator responds to bigoted backlash over trans filmmaker project
"For those of you who have responded negatively to this initiative, thank you for confirming the need to support the voices of those who merely wish to exist without discrimination. I'll see you at the movies!"
"I'm so thrilled to bring our micro-budget found footage experience, and some of my The Morning Show cash, to the table and see what we can do together,"
"This is about empowering trans filmmakers to make something bold and real without waiting for permission,"
"Thank you for being a great person,"
Duplass Brothers Productions partnered with the Transgender Film Center to create the Found Footage Feature Fund to fully finance a micro-budget production by a trans filmmaker. The initiative includes private consultation sessions with Mark Duplass and director Patrick Brice. Applications open 23 October and close 7 November and accept projects across genres that use found footage or other economical filmmaking approaches. Duplass publicly framed the backlash as confirmation of the need to support trans voices and affirmed continued engagement with audiences. The Transgender Film Center described the fund as empowering trans filmmakers to create boldly without waiting for permission.
