"Stuart Craig, the multi-Oscar winning production designer for The English Patient, The Elephant Man and the Harry Potter films, has died aged 83. His family told the Guardian he had died peacefully at home on Sunday after 14 years with Parkinson's disease. Our beloved husband and father, deeply loved and respected, was not only known for his talent but also for his kindness and we are moved by hearing of how many lives he touched. He will live on in our hearts forever."

Stuart Craig died aged 83 after 14 years with Parkinson's disease, and his family described him as deeply loved, respected, talented and kind. He won Academy Awards for Gandhi, Dangerous Liaisons and The English Patient, and received eight further Oscar nominations including for four Harry Potter films. He earned 16 BAFTA nominations with three wins. Born in Norwich in 1942, he studied film design at the Royal College of Art and worked in art departments through the 1960s and 1970s on films such as Casino Royale, Scrooge and Royal Flash. He established himself as an art director on A Bridge Too Far and Superman and achieved a breakthrough as production designer on The Elephant Man.
