Review | 'Words of War' commemorates the courage of a Russian journalist
Briefly

'Words of War' portrays the life of Anna Politkovskaya, a courageous Russian journalist who reported on the Second Chechen War against a backdrop of political turmoil. Directed by James Strong, the film follows her bold pursuit of the truth, marked by personal sacrifices and challenges. Politkovskaya's relationship with her family strains as she battles to deliver the news about war crimes and government oppression. The film underscores her ultimate sacrifice in 2006, questioning the viewer's own moral dilemmas regarding truth and courage in the face of overwhelming odds.
The film's a British production directed by a veteran of British TV, James Strong, and it's meat-and-potatoes stuff as moviemaking goes, doughty and dutiful in following the career of Politkovskaya from the onset of her reporting on the Second Chechen War to her assassination on Oct. 7, 2006 - Vladimir Putin's 54th birthday.
Anna Politkovskaya, a Russian journalist who went up against the villain of our age and paid the ultimate price for it. That's a warning and, in the movie's moral long view, a dare.
