The Resident Evil reboot is set to begin filming soon, and Cregger has lined up a few more performers for the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Cherry is one of the latest additions to Resident Evil. His character is said to be a scientist who works at a hospital."
"Weapons standout Austin Abrams has a leading role in Resident Evil, but he won't be playing one of the characters from the games. Cregger has cited Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 as the games that set the tone for his movie, and indicated that the film will maintain continuity with those stories even though they won't be sharing characters."
The Resident Evil franchise will mark its 30th anniversary next year with a big-screen reboot directed by Zach Cregger. Production will begin later this month in Prague, and the film is scheduled to be released on September 18, 2026. Casting additions include Zach Cherry as a hospital scientist, Kali Reis as a military veteran originally envisioned as male, comedian Johnno Wilson, and lead Austin Abrams in an original role. Cregger cites Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 as tonal influences and intends to maintain continuity with those stories while avoiding depiction of key canonical game characters. The next game, Resident Evil Requiem, releases February 27, 2026.
