Predator: Badlands Looks Like The Glorious '80s Action Movie The World Desperately Needs
Briefly

The 1980s was known for its big, dumb action movies, particularly starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Predator, released in 1987, blended U.S. special forces with an alien antagonist, becoming a massive success despite mixed reviews. The film's legacy includes an unusual path: rather than numerous sequels, it resulted in the poorly received Predator 2. After years of inactivity, Alien vs. Predator emerged in 2004, followed by the less memorable Predators in 2010 and The Predator in 2018, which faced significant criticism and is regarded as a failure.
Predator was a massive success despite an inevitable critical mauling, but has one of the weirdest legacies of the era.
Rather than spawning a run of rinse-and-repeat sequels, it instead saw the fantastically incongruous and amazingly terrible Predator 2, a Danny Glover vehicle directed by Stephen Hopkins.
In 2010 we got the almost entirely forgotten Predators directed by the almost entirely forgotten Nimród Antal, then in 2018 The Predator from the occasionally brilliant Shane Black.
That too got slaughtered by critics, and despite making back its money is considered a failure, including by Black himself.
