"On November 15, Pope Leo will hostCate Blanchett, Monica Bellucci, Adam Scott, Dave Franco and Alison Brie, Viggo Mortensen, and the best Chris, Pine, at the Vatican. He will also meet some notable directors: Spike Lee, George Miller, and Gus Van Sant, as well as NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim (who is having quite a year already - check out his GQ spread)."
"It would make sense for a pope to want to meet Catholic celebrities, or even celebrities who could be grouped together by similarities in their work ( like when Pope Francis met a bunch of comedians), but the celebrities that Pope Leo wants to meet are literally random. This eclectic list asks more questions than it answers: Has Pope Leo seen Tár? Did Pope Leo think Mad Max: Fury Road should have won Best Picture over Spotlight (given the latter's subject matter ... probably)?"
Pope Leo was elected a little over six months ago and will host a group of actors and directors at the Vatican on November 15. Invited guests include Cate Blanchett, Monica Bellucci, Adam Scott, Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Viggo Mortensen, Chris Pine, Spike Lee, George Miller, Gus Van Sant, and NYFF artistic director Dennis Lim. The pope previously met Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. The guest list is eclectic and raises questions about his film viewing and preferences. The pope said he wants to "deepen dialogue with the World of Cinema" to explore how artistic creativity can serve the Church's mission and promote human values. He named four favorite films: It's a Wonderful Life; The Sound of Music; Life Is Beautiful; Ordinary People.
