Pete Docter, Pixar's chief creative officer, believes that AI will not replace humans in animated filmmaking despite concerns in Hollywood about job losses. While some support AI for cost-effectiveness in filmmaking, Docter views current AI outputs as uninspiring. He noted that computers have already changed animation, making it accessible to more people and reducing the need for advanced drawing skills. He considers AI capable of easing the animating process, helping to offload cumbersome tasks traditionally managed by animators.
AI seems like it is the least impressive blah average of things. People are troubled by AI, but I don’t think it will erase humans from animated filmmaking.
Computers made animation more accessible, meaning people don’t have to be a 'brilliant draft person' to be an animator.
I still have to have performance and timing, but one of the heavy lifts has been done by the computer.
AI could relieve animators of some 'heavy burdens', continuing to help us lift some of the burdens we have to carry.
