Quentin Tarantino labeled Paul Dano "a big, giant flaw" in There Will Be Blood and called him "such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy. The weakest fucking actor in SAG." Paul Dano said at a Sundance Little Miss Sunshine screening that the public outpouring of support touched him and that he was grateful the world spoke up on his behalf. Co-star Toni Collette called Tarantino's remark baffling and insulting. Co-director Jonathan Dayton called the comment an embarrassment and suggested Dano's raw performance unsettled Tarantino. Tarantino made similar criticisms of Matthew Lillard and Owen Wilson, and Lillard described the public defense as like living through his own wake.
