Orlando Bloom tells Ryan Tubridy he has applied for an Irish passport
Briefly

Orlando Bloom said he is getting an Irish passport because his grandfather was from Northern Ireland and to make travel around Europe easier after Brexit. He spoke about the decision during a Virgin Radio interview with Ryan Tubridy, noting some practical paperwork issues when working abroad. Bloom said he values his Irish heritage and has previously celebrated it by singing an Irish folk song on St Patrick's Day. He stars as a retired Irish boxer in the new thriller The Cut. Bloom and Katy Perry announced their split but emphasized co-parenting their daughter, Daisy, together.
The 48-year-old revealed he wanted to embrace his Irish heritage and make getting around Europe easier post-Brexit. "I'm getting my Irish passport. [My grandfather] was actually from Northern Ireland," he told former RTÉ host Ryan Tubridy on Virgin Radio in the UK. Tubridy replied: "And there's a lot of people from the UK who, after a certain political move, found themselves looking for a granny down the back of the couch."
Bloom, who was born in Canterbury in Kent, added: "And also, I love the fact that I've got Irish heritage. That's all it is." The Lord of the Rings star plays a retired Irish boxer in new psychological thriller The Cut, which is released this week. This isn't the first time Bloom has embraced his Irish roots after he previously surprised pub goers by singing a folk song on St Patrick's Day.
The movie star announced his split from Perry (40) earlier this summer. The former couple have a four-year-old daughter, Daisy. They issued a statement saying they have been "shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is - and always will be - raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect."
