"I didn't expect this, actually, Anderson said on stage. I started to think I didn't know what was going on."
"The Gothams, which had been created to celebrate independent film, recently removed its $35m budget cap allowing for studio films such as Barbie, Challengers and Poor Things to compete."
"I hope that this dedication will be considered a small tribute to all film-makers who have been deprived of the right to see and to be seen, but continue to"
One Battle After Another won best feature at the Gotham Awards and was named best film by the New York Film Critics Circle, positioning it as an early best-picture frontrunner. The Thomas Pynchon adaptation stars Leonardo DiCaprio as an ex-revolutionary searching for his daughter. The film, released by Warner Bros, had an estimated budget of at least $130m and has grossed $202m worldwide. The Gothams removed a $35m budget cap, allowing studio films to compete. Other winners included Sope Dirisu, Wunmi Mosaku, Benicio Del Toro, Rose Byrne, Wagner Moura and Amy Madigan. Jafar Panahi received directing awards while facing a sentence in absentia in Iran.
