"Pat Proft, Mike McManus and I came up with a great idea to not set it in an LA cop station," explained Zucker. "We set our Naked Gun 4 in the James Bond, Bourne Identity, Mission: Impossible world, so it wasn't the same thing. It wasn't copying. It would have been with a young comic actor like Andy Samberg."
"merely try to, with blinders on, copy a 30-40 year old idea... and replacing Leslie Nielsen, what a moronic thing to do!"
"If your daughter became a prostitute, would you go watch her work?"
David Zucker criticized Paramount and producer Seth MacFarlane for rebooting The Naked Gun in 2025 and called the decision to replace Leslie Nielsen with Liam Neeson moronic. Zucker, co-creator of Police Squad! and the original Naked Gun films, stated that he and collaborators had a different concept for a fourth film set in a Bond/Bourne/Mission: Impossible style world with a young comic lead such as Andy Samberg. Paramount opted for a Seth MacFarlane-produced reboot instead, and Zucker has not watched that reboot, using a provocative metaphor to explain his avoidance. Zucker expressed hope that his proposed version might still be produced.
