Miriam Margolyes told Leonardo DiCaprio he was gay
"Speaking on the most recent episode of The Life of Bryony, podcast with Bryony Gordon, Margolyes revealed that her "gaydar" needs some slight recalibrating, because she repeatedly notified DiCaprio that he was a homosexual. After telling Gordon that the pair went shopping together while filming Baz Luhrmann's 1996 adaptation of WIlliam Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet, Margolyes revealed that she thought DiCaprio was gay because "he wore a dress"."
""I did think he was gay because he wrore a dress," she said. "I mean, I think he likes people to be talking about him..." The former Harry Potter actor called DiCaprio a "very nice guy and a fine actor," as well as a "great shopping companion," and that the pair went on their shopping spree in Mexico City. But when quizzed on what dress DiCaprio donned, Margolyes had a suitably iconic answer: "Well, I can't remember. It was just a summer dress. It was hot....  And I just said, 'I think you are gay.' And he said, 'No, I'm not. I'm not.' "I said, 'I think you'll find you are.' But I was wrong.... So my gaydar is at fault there.""
""I am a lesbian, but I'm not lesbian. It doesn't mean that's all I am. And I think nobody says that lesbians can't suck cock.""
Miriam Margolyes mistakenly assumed Leonardo DiCaprio was gay after he tried on a summer dress while they shopped during filming of Romeo + Juliet and later admitted her gaydar was wrong. She described DiCaprio as a very nice guy, a fine actor and a great shopping companion, recalling their Mexico City shopping spree. Margolyes also labelled John Cleese a bitter old man and spoke candidly about her sexual history, stating she performed oral sex despite identifying as a lesbian and asserting that lesbian identity does not preclude such acts.
