
"This worldwide effort mails free, high-quality, age-appropriate books to children under age 5 every month, with a goal of sparking a lifetime love of reading. "Building a home library, reading to children starting at birth, and introducing families to their public library are important ways to help our littlest learners become successful readers," said County Librarian Jennifer Weeks in a release."
"The Milpitas Library is screening six horror movies on two Sundays this month. The festival features classics, cult films and blockbuster hits with vampires, zombies, demons and other things that go bump in the night. The Oct. 12 lineup starts with "The Craft" at 11 a.m., followed by "Shaun of the Dead" at 1 p.m. and "Rosemary's Baby" at 3 p.m. On Oct. 19, the festival opens with "Army of Darkness" at 11 a.m., followed by "The Conjuring" at 1 p.m. and "Sinners" at 3 p.m. These films are rated R."
