Michelle Williams revealed that her experience living with Ryan Gosling while filming 'Blue Valentine' was much more intense than imagined. They took a two-week break from filming to live together, working under director Derek Cianfrance's guidance to intentionally annoy each other and deepen their understanding of their characters' evolving relationship. Their improvisational exercises involved scenarios meant to create tension, including one where they had to take their daughter to an amusement park after a frustrating day. This process was both challenging and enjoyable, as they explored their characters' complexities.
"We shot the first part where they're young and in love and everything is going really well and then we took a two-week break and we lived together. Office hours, baby, like, 9 to 5. Professional situation."
"We learned how to annoy each other. It was horrible. I don't want to give you reasons to hate me. We were having such a good time. The party has to be over so soon?"
