Seven Adam Driver films have screened at the Cannes Film Festival since 2016, with only one instance of him watching himself on screen at the Megalopolis premiere. He said he cannot stand to watch himself and described a system for waiting until the film begins, moving through corridors to a room overlooking boats, then sneaking back in quietly as the lights come up. He stayed for Megalopolis because Francis Ford Coppola’s wife, Eleanor, had just passed away. He also described how he manages nerves, once using a couple drinks but avoiding overdoing it so he can return in the right mood when others are crying and he would otherwise disrupt the atmosphere.
"“I can't stand to watch myself,” Driver said. “I have a whole system where I wait until everything is starting and I go through these mazes into a room that overlooks all these boats. And then I sneak back in and try not to be noisy so I can be there as the lights come up.”"
"He also explained why he stayed for Megalopolis: Director Francis Ford Coppola's wife, Eleanor, “had just passed away.”"
"“I used to have a couple drinks, just to calm down, but I can't go overboard because sometimes you come back and you don't match the mood of a movie,” he revealed. “Sometimes people are crying, and you're like, 'Hey everybody!'”"
