James L. Brooks directed Ella McCay, a film about a smart, ambitious young woman confronting a demanding job, a dysfunctional family, a needy husband and untimely life challenges. Emma Mackey stars in the lead role and describes the part as a rare, full portrayal of a woman's life. Co-stars Albert Brooks and Jamie Lee Curtis praised Mackey's performance as beautiful, funny, fragile, fierce and complicated, with Curtis likening her to a young Katharine Hepburn. Brooks emphasized the excitement of discovering a new lead and the film opens Friday, Dec. 12.
