Man who shouted n-word at Black actors wants you to know he also yelled "pedophile" at a bi actor - LGBTQ Nation
"Davidson - who attended the awards ceremony as an executive producer for a biopic about his life with TS, I Swear, which was nominated for five BAFTA awards - recently told Variety that ceremony organizers assured him "that any swearing would be edited out of the broadcast," aired on a two-hour delay by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC)."
"Davidson told Variety that he felt "a wave of shame" over his utterance and voluntarily left the awards after his racist outburst. Davidson has used the incident to highlight TS, a neurological disorder that may cause sudden unwanted, uncontrolled movements and vocal sounds called "tics.""
"Davidson is among the estimated 15% of people with TS who experience coprolalia, the involuntary utterance of obscene words or socially inappropriate phrases."
John Davidson, a Tourette syndrome activist and executive producer of the biopic I Swear, experienced involuntary outbursts at the February 22 BAFTA Awards ceremony. He shouted a racial slur at presenters Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo, and also yelled "paedophile" after a joke by Alan Cumming. Davidson attributed both incidents to his TS and felt shame over the racist outburst, voluntarily leaving the ceremony. Tourette syndrome experts support his explanation, noting that coprolalia—the involuntary utterance of obscene or socially inappropriate words—affects approximately 15% of TS patients. The BBC had assured Davidson that swearing would be edited from the broadcast but failed to censor the racial slur, later apologizing for the error.
