Christine Baranski discussed on 'The Late Show' that Stellan Skarsgård was not fond of his dancing scenes while filming 'Mamma Mia!'. Despite the lighthearted nature of the film, Skarsgård struggled with the dance sequences, especially in the finale. Baranski recalled how Pierce Brosnan enthusiastically participated while Skarsgård often avoided the camera. The film's success led to a sequel, where the director insisted on mandatory dancing, leading Skarsgård to express his frustration. Ultimately, the film series propelled Skarsgård into a different light, despite his personal discomfort with the dance scenes.
I don't think he'll mind my saying he hated having to do the dance stuff," Baranski said. "When we finally went down the hill in 'Dancing Queen' and landed on the dock, the camera would move around and it usually would avoid Stellan."
[Director] Ol Parker made it clear to the cast that dancing was non-negotiable. "You have got to do the moves now - you have simply got to do the moves," he said, in anticipation of their close-up shots.
