Kuku Studios in Berkeley set to release 1st full movie, In Your Dreams'
"Launched in 2016 by former Pixar colleagues Alex Woo, Stanley Moore and Tim Hahn, Kuku Studios now commands one floor of the Zaentz Media Center in Berkeley and is seeing one of its biggest dreams materialize, the debut of its first feature-length film, In Your Dreams. The PG film drops Nov. 14 on Netflix after a recent limited run in theaters"
"Dreams are such a universal experience, said Woo, the CEO and the film's co-director and co-writer. They transcend culture. They transcend time. We also still don't know why we dream, which is a great space for mythology and prediction. But to make the story truly connect, it required getting grounded in reality. That's where Woo's background helped shape the story."
Former Pixar colleagues founded Kuku Studios in 2016 and established operations on a floor of the Zaentz Media Center in Berkeley. The studio's first feature, In Your Dreams, is a PG animated film that combines high-quality animation with a notable voice cast, including Simu Liu. The plot follows siblings Stevie and Elliott as they seek the mythical Sandman's help to save their parents' troubled marriage. Dreams were chosen as the film's central conceit for their universality and mythic possibilities, while the emotional core was grounded in Alex Woo's childhood experience of his mother briefly leaving to sort things out.
