"Jonny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson have accused Universal of breaching Greenwood's composer agreement for the Phantom Thread score, by licensing a piece of music from the film for Melania. Brett Ratner's controversial documentary on the first lady, Melania Trump, includes a long excerpt of "Barbara Rose," a song the Radiohead guitarist composed for Anderson's film. They have requested its removal."
"It has come to our attention that a piece of music from Phantom Thread has been used in the Melania documentary. While Jonny Greenwood does not own the copyright in the score, Universal failed to consult Jonny on this third-party use which is a breach of his composer agreement. As a result Jonny and Paul Thomas Anderson have asked for it to be removed from the documentary."
Jonny Greenwood and Paul Thomas Anderson allege that Universal breached Greenwood's composer agreement by licensing music from Phantom Thread for Brett Ratner's Melania documentary. The documentary about Melania Trump includes a long excerpt of Barbara Rose, a song Greenwood composed for Phantom Thread, which Greenwood and Anderson say was licensed without consulting Greenwood. Greenwood does not own the score's copyright, but the composer agreement allegedly required Universal to consult him before authorizing third-party uses. Greenwood and Anderson have requested that the music be removed from the documentary. Pitchfork has contacted Universal for comment on the licensing dispute.
