JLaw Claims She Wasn't 'Pretty Enough' for a Quentin Tarantino Film
"Well, he did, and then everybody was like, 'She's not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate'."
"I'm pretty sure it is true," Lawrence said. "Or it's that thing where I've been telling the story for so long that way I believe it. I'm pretty sure that's true, or he just never was considering me for the part and the internet just went out of its way to call me ugly."
"Simply because of her physical beauty and the way she carries herself, it's similar to that of Sharon," Deborah said. "I don't think as much about Jennifer Lawrence, not that I have anything against her. She's just, I don't know, she's not pretty enough to play Sharon. That's a horrible thing to say, but I have my standards."
Jennifer Lawrence said that Quentin Tarantino had considered her for the role of Sharon Tate but perceived public opinion and comments labeled her 'not pretty enough.' The part ultimately went to Margot Robbie. Lawrence said she believes appearance influenced the casting decision or that online commenters unfairly called her ugly. Sharon Tate's sister Deborah told TMZ that Robbie better resembled Tate and cited Robbie's physical beauty and bearing as reasons. Deborah met with Tarantino to express reservations. Tarantino has not confirmed his casting rationale. Lawrence previously declined a role in Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.
