Warda Mohamed, upon sharing her completed feature film script on social media, received unexpected recognition from BBC Film, leading to her 18-minute short film 'Muna.' The film, which addresses the complexities of being a British-Somali teenager through themes of grief and family, achieved significant success by screening at over 60 international film festivals and garnering multiple awards. The lead actress, Kosar Ali, highlighted the scarcity of authentic Somali representation in cinema and their commitment to overcoming challenges in casting to maintain authenticity in storytelling.

I want to show all of the beauty and richness of being British-Somali.
Achieving this authenticity came with its own set of issues, Ali says.
