Inclusive Brighton is perfect venue for World Cup's sell-out party weekend
"Last time the Rugby World Cup went to the city they made a movie about how it all worked out. Karne Hesketh scored in the corner in the final minute, Japan beat South Africa 34-32, and before you knew it the team were up on the big screen in a film called The Brighton Miracle. In a particularly inspired bit of casting, the head coach, Eddie Jones, was played by Temuera Morrison, best known for portraying a cold-blooded bounty hunter in the Star Wars movies."
"This time, the movie has come before the match. World Rugby is releasing a short film called Where We Belong, directed by the duo Pip + Lib, emphasising rugby's inclusivity. It is being launched this weekend. Obviously we've seen that players in this tournament have been able to bring across their personalities, because they have that freedom of expression, says the tournament director, Sarah Massey."
Brighton will host a major rugby weekend with sold-out international matches and a high-profile crowd. England face Australia and New Zealand face Ireland across two packed fixtures. The city is expecting celebrity attendance and festival-style attractions such as fanzones, free concerts and fireworks. Brighton previously inspired a film after Japan's upset over South Africa, and World Rugby is releasing a new short film, Where We Belong, directed by Pip + Lib. The new film emphasises rugby's inclusivity and launches during the weekend. Tournament director Sarah Massey highlights player expression and intentions to platform women and under-represented groups.
