"I love that you can just walk outside for a cup of coffee and bump into a friend and decide to go to the Whitney. That spontaneity and the ability to encounter people unexpectedly and make impromptu plans is what keeps me in Manhattan after more than 30 years."
"My mom was a big movie nut. I would be ready to go out and play baseball or something, and I'd come into the living room to say, 'I'll see you later,' and she would say, 'Come here and watch this with me for a second.' Together, they would watch Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell movies. I kind of got obsessed."
"He doesn't mind being noticed or interrupted. Most people are nice and say nice things, or they don't say anything at all. The recognition from his role on Mad Men has become a regular part of his daily life in the city."
John Slattery, 63, has been a Manhattan resident for over three decades, drawn to the spontaneity and social opportunities the city offers. After establishing himself as a character actor, his 2007 role as Roger Sterling on Mad Men transformed his career, earning him sex-symbol status and four Emmy nominations. Since the show ended in 2015, he has continued working on Broadway, in films, and television, including the Netflix series Vladimir. Growing up in Boston with five siblings, Slattery was inspired by his mother's love of classic films featuring actors like Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. He maintains a routine of biking through Manhattan neighborhoods, recently recovering from knee surgery.
