Fleet Foxes Cover Elliott Smith's "Angel in the Snow"
"The band's version of the late singer's classic track smoothly bridges the worlds of folk and indie rock, with soft and warm vocals floating atop guitars in a stirring manner."
"'Angel in the Snow' has always been one of my favorite songs by Elliott, one I'd always listen to around the holidays, so it was a huge joy to make this for such a sweet film," he said."
"The LP, which features Sharon Van Etten's cover of '2000 Miles' by The Pretenders and songs from acts like Gwen Stefani, St. Vincent, the bird and the bee, Jeff Tweedy, and Weyes Blood, is available for pre-order now."
Fleet Foxes released a new cover of Elliott Smith's 'Angel in the Snow' for the soundtrack to Oh. What. Fun., directed by Michael Showalter. The cover blends folk and indie rock with soft, warm vocals over guitars and pulls back vocals near the end so instrumentation evokes holiday feelings. Robin Pecknold called the song a long-time holiday favorite and said recording it was a joy, recalling handing out 'RIP Elliott' flyers in 2004. The soundtrack, featuring Sharon Van Etten, Gwen Stefani, St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy and Weyes Blood, releases December 3 alongside the film, with a special event on December 15 in Los Angeles.
