"In a certain classic film, the protagonist uses two weapons. The name of one of these has 10 letters. If you take its first letter and last six letters, you can rearrange them all to name the other weapon this protagonist uses, in seven letters. What weapons are these? Challenge answer Light saber --> blaster Winner Stephanie O'Neil of Jamesville, New York"
Clues use the first two letters as the initials of eight famous people. The clues include: a scowling judge on "America's Got Talent"; an employer at Tesla and SpaceX; a CNN host; a chariot-riding actor in "Ben-Hur"; an eminent French leader; the playwright of "Death of a Salesman"; the aviator who crossed the Atlantic in the Spirit of St. Louis; and the leader who helped the Mormon Church settle in Utah. Last week's puzzle involved two weapons; the answer was "Light saber" → "blaster", and the prizewinner was Stephanie O'Neil of Jamesville, New York. This week's challenge, from Dave Shukan, asks to change one letter in EASTERN TIME and rearrange the letters to name a place that observes Eastern Time; submissions are due Thursday, September 25 at 3 p.m. ET.
