EXCLUSIVE: Brendan Fraser reveals he found a sense of 'discipline' on set of 'Rental Family'
"we present a little coolness in the very beginning."
"obviously the blue always represents cool color (sic), like sadness and loneliness."
"Every character he meets, especially Mira, actually, will start adding a little bit more color into his life."
"My hope is that it'll change you a little bit, that it'll warm your heart. It will make you feel like family is really who we include, rather than who we are assigned to."
Set in modern-day Tokyo, Brendan Fraser plays Phillip, an employee at a rental-family agency who fills stand-in roles for strangers seeking connection. Phillip becomes deeply involved in clients' lives as immersive performances blur the line between pretend and reality. Color is used deliberately to convey emotion, with cool blues at the start representing sadness and loneliness and brighter hues introduced as Phillip experiences personal transformations and connections, particularly through Mira. The production emphasized Japanese artistry in set design and makeup. The release includes theatrical run, digital availability on January 13, and Blu-ray on February 17 with bonus features.
