"For the last forty-five years, Bruce Campbell has wielded a square jaw, tongue firmly in its cheek, to establish himself as an emblematic figure in genre films. Best known as Ash, the perpetually beset hero of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead films, he also played an elderly ersatz Elvis in Don Coscarelli's Bubba Ho-tep and headlined TV series including The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. and Burn Notice."
"Self-financed and made completely outside the studio system, Ernie & Emma is a labor of love in more ways than one. Collaborating with, and inspired by, his wife, Ida Gearon, a costume designer Campbell met while making Army of Darkness, Campbell tackles issues of mortality and grief with a light touch. Emma's posthumous scavenger hunt sends Ernie to the gravesite of their son and a reckoning with marital infidelity, but also to a cannabis dispensary, a liquor store,"
Bruce Campbell has built a genre career over forty-five years, known for Ash in Evil Dead and roles in Bubba Ho-tep, Brisco County, Jr., and Burn Notice. In his late 60s, he created and stars in Ernie & Emma, set in southern Oregon. The film follows Ernie, a widower who follows posthumous instructions from his wife Emma to confront grief, visit their son's gravesite, face infidelity, and explore local landmarks including a cannabis dispensary, liquor store, and a Bigfoot trap. The film was self-financed and produced outside the studio system. Campbell collaborated with his wife Ida Gearon and drew inspiration from his father and a desire to break typecasting.
