Emma Stone plays a chief executive kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists who believe she is an alien intent on destroying the planet. Bugonia is a black comedy directed by Yorgos Lanthimos that premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival. The film is Lanthimos's third release in three years, all starring Stone, following his Golden Lion–winning Poor Things, which later won four Oscars including best actress for Stone. Bugonia also features Jesse Plemons as a conspiracist beekeeper and Aidan Delbis as his partner. The script by Will Tracy is an English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan's 2003 film Save the Green Planet!. Emma Stone expresses admiration for Carl Sagan and believes in aliens.
