"It's dead, sadly. I say 'sadly' because I actually thought there was something really special (and original!) there. Some truly extraordinary music we had figured out for it. I keep daydreaming about doing it independently with different characters."
"Needless to say, I lasted only a few years there. But they were really great years. I wouldn't trade them for the world. But I do have some proper crazy Disney stories that I should share someday."
Director Carlos López Estrada announced that Disney has abandoned its planned live-action and CGI hybrid remake of the 1973 animated Robin Hood. Estrada expressed disappointment about the cancellation, noting the project contained extraordinary original music and creative elements he considered special. Screenwriter Kari Granlund, who previously worked on Disney's 2019 Lady and the Tramp remake, had been attached to the script. Estrada mentioned considering developing the concept independently with different characters. During the same Reddit AMA, Estrada reflected on his experience co-directing Disney's 2021 animated film Raya and the Last Dragon, describing his tenure at Disney as challenging but rewarding, and noting his historic role as the first person of color to lead Disney's directing department.
