After Avengers: Endgame, many Marvel movies and shows addressed the Blip's effects on characters, with responses ranging from Spider-Man's mourning to WandaVision's denial. More than five years later, Marvel moved beyond Blip-centered grief to a film focusing on a different kind of sadness that became a relatable tearjerker and is now on Disney+. Thunderbolts assembles a morally ambiguous team teased in 2021, including John Walker, Yelena Belova, Red Guardian, Taskmaster, Ghost, and Bucky Barnes. The Contessa uses them for solo missions and to eliminate loose ends, but the group forms an uneasy alliance and escapes. Bob emerges as a mysterious, troubled figure whose touch traps people in their worst memories while Contessa seeks to brand him Sentry.
First teased when Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine appeared at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier back in 2021, the Thunderbolts are a motley collection of that show's John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Black Widow's Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurlyenko), Ant-Man and the Wasp's Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier 's Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).
After Avengers: Endgame, it felt like every single Marvel movie and show was obligated to contain some message about how the Blip had affected everyone. From Spider-Man: Far From Home mourning Tony Stark to Scarlet Witch's denial in WandaVision fueling an entire neighborhood's magical enslavement, everyone was dealing with the tragedy in different ways. More than five years later, Marvel finally moved on with a movie that focused on a different kind of sadness.
