Cynthia Erivo makes Golden Globes history with second nomination
"WOW!! What lovely news to receive live from the rehearsal room of @draculawestend. It's an honor to be nominated once again for this film."
"It has been a beautiful journey to play this character, and this is the cherry on top. This entire journey wouldn't have been possible without the wonderful leadership of my brother and glorious director @jonmchu and producer extraordinaire everyone could only wish for, Marc Platt."
Cynthia Erivo received a Golden Globe nomination for lead actress (comedy or musical) for Wicked: For Good, marking her second nomination in that category and making her the first Black woman to achieve two nominations there. Erivo shared her excitement from a rehearsal room and thanked director Jon M. Chu and producer Marc Platt while congratulating costar Ariana Grande for a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Wicked: For Good earned five Golden Globe nominations in total. Both lead actresses had songs from the film — Elphaba's "No Place Like Home" and Glinda's "Girl in the Bubble" by Stephen Schwartz — nominated for Best Original Song. Only 12 Black women have been nominated historically in the lead actress category, and Angela Bassett remains the only Black winner.
