""When I was living in London, [I] must have been about 19, 20-ish, I would go around with a notebook and write bits of advice that I heard, or some random musings from the local drunk, or anything that I would come across,""
""It was the romantic period of a young man coming into his adulthood and trying to find mentorship.""
Henry Golding carried a notebook in his late teens and early twenties, recording advice and random musings from strangers and locals. He began his career as a hairstylist at Richard Ward in London’s Sloane Square, serving affluent clients. In his early twenties he moved to Malaysia to pursue travel television and spent eleven years as a travel host. Director John Chu discovered his YouTube clips and cast him in Crazy Rich Asians, which grossed over $238 million worldwide and became his first major studio role. Inspiration is often found in unexpected places and small encounters.
