Charli XCX wants 'brat to stop,' takes over Sundance with roles in 3 films
"Some pop stars would want that moment to last forever, which is the premise of "The Moment," a new mockumentary that premiered Friday at the Sundance Film Festival from indie distributor A24 that parodies Charli's reign at the top of pop culture. It's a lively look inside what Charli's life might be like, skewering the commercialization of the music industry with an astute eye."
""The Moment" was only one of the three films featuring the pop star screening at the festival. She plays a rigid girlfriend in Gregg Araki's raunchy "I Want Your Sex," and serves as part of an ensemble cast in "The Gallerist," an art world parody starring Natalie Portman. This comes after a starring role in "Erupcja" and a cameo in "Sacrifice," both of which premiered at TIFF 2025."
Charli XCX dominated summer 2024 with her 'Brat summer' cultural phenomenon, and the slime-green album cover aesthetic spread widely, even appearing in Kamala Harris' presidential campaign. A24 premiered The Moment, a mockumentary parodying Charli's cultural reign and skewering music industry commercialization. Charli plays herself: a mercurial artist balancing creative inspiration and financial incentives, launching a green brat credit card and hiring a vapid concert film director played by Alexander Skarsgård. The film employs deadpan humor reminiscent of This Is Spinal Tap. Charli also appears in Gregg Araki's I Want Your Sex, The Gallerist, Erupcja, and Sacrifice, with several festival screenings and a Q&A.
