"On behalf of all the producers, we're so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff's important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here. Billy was an extraordinary Emcee, bringing his signature passion and remarkable talent,"
Billy Porter suffered a serious case of sepsis in September and withdrew from Broadway's Cabaret, where he was cast as the Emcee at the Kit Kat Klub. He received a get-well card from Prince William while recovering. Porter and Prince William met in South Africa when Porter hosted the fourth Earthshot Prize, an annual award founded in 2020 that honors five environmental contributions. Porter described Prince William as grounded, kind, and present, saying he felt humbled and blessed to host the Earthshot Prize in Cape Town. Cabaret producers announced an early closing due to Porter's illness and praised his extraordinary performance as the Emcee.
