"As we were fitting and I had conversations with [Ariana], it became clear that she really wanted to feel more vulnerable in that moment."
"When we started, there was much more going on in the upper portion of the wedding dress,"
Jon M. Chu positioned Wicked: For Good as Glinda's installment by giving her an original song and a deep emotional storyline in which she is left at the altar. Paul Tazewell, Oscar-winning costume designer for Part One, translated that emotional arc into clothing choices that dialed back Glinda's usual ostentation. The wedding gown was made asymmetrical and strapless to expose arms and shoulders, featured a relatively unembellished bodice, and retained a dramatic 25-foot train to support the scene’s emotional impact. Tazewell applied similar thoughtful costume decisions across the cast to reinforce character and narrative.
