An Oakland Rapper-Turned-Screenwriter Returns to the Bay Area | KQED
Briefly

Saeed Crumpler returns to the Bay Area for the BraveMaker Film Festival, which runs from July 10-13 in Redwood City. The festival features over 90 film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions, celebrating local talents. Crumpler, who signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures Television, is working on multiple Bay Area-centered projects. He advises filmmakers to create three-minute trailers as proofs of concept rather than full films, empowering independent creators to share their unfiltered ideas. The festival represents a vibrant community of creatives seeking to launch their projects.
"I've got an animated show, got a comedy, and we've got like two dramas," says Crumpler. "All of them take place pretty much in the Bay Area."
"Instead of trying to make a movie for five thousand dollars, try to make a three-minute trailer for the movie," Crumpler suggests. "It's all about making a small iteration of an idea in order to show it to the world."
"As an independent creator, your benefit is, you don't have anybody trying to change your ideas," he says. "You can just create and put it out without a filter. And sometimes those things take off."
