Alan Cumming returns as Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday, joining Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Kelsey Grammer as their Fox X-Men characters. Production used extensive green screen work, face replacement, fake character names, and isolated shooting, with several scenes filmed quickly and compressed together. Some performers were unsure whom they were acting opposite during parts of filming. Pedro Pascal will portray Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards after appearing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Returning to the role was described as really healing, while the X2 experience involved heavy makeup and on-set difficulties.
