A raunchy new Gregg Araki comedy just dropped & it's the perfect excuse to rewatch his other queer classic - Queerty
"The people want more Gregg Araki and they want it now! And, thankfully, the universe delivered twofold this week, with news that not only has the New Queer Cinema auteur's latest feature been picked up for theatrical release later this year, but one of his most acclaimed films will soon be getting a re-release, looking better than ever. How about we take this to the next level?"
"Speaking with Queerty ahead of the premiere, the director clued us in on how its evolved over its long journey to the screen: "[Initially,] it was a female intern and a male boss, and it was just a very different kind of story," he shared. "We were supposed to make it after White Bird In A Blizzard in 2015, but then it fell apart-as indie movies do."
Magnolia Pictures acquired Gregg Araki's new film I Want Your Sex for theatrical release after its Sundance premiere. The film, Araki's first feature in over a decade and more than 13 years in development, stars Cooper Hoffman and Olivia Wilde and examines generational attitudes toward sex through a story about a directionless Gen Z man who becomes a modern artist's sexual muse. Development changes and the Me Too Movement prompted a gender flip of the central relationship. The film features candy-colored imagery and provocative sexual props, generating both delight and scandal at festival screenings, and an earlier Araki film will be re-released.
