Drop is a new thriller by Christopher Landon that combines elements of horror and comedy. Set in a posh Chicago restaurant, the film follows widowed mother Violet as she embarks on a date with Henry. However, things take a dark turn when Violet begins receiving anonymous messages that threaten her son unless she kills Henry. The movie cleverly subverts traditional horror narratives by placing the male character in peril. While it may lack coherence at times, it compensates with entertainment value and humor, featuring a cast of quirky characters and a thrilling whodunnit premise.
Thankfully for Drop, for every ounce of sense it fails to make, the movie certainly makes up for it in sheer fun.
The movie follows Violet, a widow and single mom, as she goes on a first date with Henry, only to receive threatening messages.
Unlike most horror movies depicting women in peril, it’s Violet's date who becomes the victim as she receives ultimatums regarding her son.
In proper whodunnit fashion, we're introduced to a cast of plausible villains, turning the seemingly straightforward date into a comedic thriller.
