"On a bright October afternoon in Seoul's Gwangjin district, Madame Woo - the chief executive of the Solid Corporation, a fashion house that owns the two labels Solid Homme and Wooyoungmi - is arriving at a temple. Tucked away in a tranquil pine forest on Achasan Mountain, just north of the Han River, this is one of Seoul's most beautiful Buddhist worship sites, the abundant nature of the surrounding woods offering a peaceful enclave away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Seoul."
"This element of spirituality crops up again at the opening of Wooyoungmi's new Seoul flagship store in Itaewon, a neighbourhood known for its dining and nightlife scene, and a growing number of boutiques. The event kicks off with a procession led by a small group of traditional male Korean dancers chanting, dancing and beating drums, leading guests to the top floor for a gosa, a traditional Korean ritual to bring good fortune to new ventures."
Madame Woo, chief executive of the Solid Corporation, maintains daily Buddhist worship at a temple nestled in a pine forest on Achasan Mountain near the Han River. The temple's proximity influenced the brand's headquarters location. Spiritual practice informed the opening of Wooyoungmi's Seoul flagship in Itaewon, which began with a procession of traditional male Korean dancers and a gosa ritual offering fruits, rice cakes and a boiled pig's head. The four-floor concrete-and-glass-brick flagship, designed by Stocker Lee Architetti, houses menswear, womenswear, a top-floor cafe and a landscaped roof garden. Large-scale, body-shaped furniture by Madame Woo and Dongwook Choi includes a red ear-shaped till symbolizing the need to listen to others.
