USA Rugby Star Ilona Maher Gets Her Own Barbie Doll
"“committed to breaking down the barriers - from gender stereotypes to self-doubt - that hold girls back from realizing their limitless potential.”"
"“We all doubt ourselves at times, myself included,”"
"“But I am where I am today, because I kept showing up anyway. Even through tough practice days or days I didn't feel my best, I continued to put in the work, strengthen my skills, and believe in my ability.”"
"“straighter, more athletic torso, visibly defined arms, shoulders and legs, plus sculpted core and back muscles,”"
Mattel launched Team Barbie featuring four rugby players: Ilona Maher (U.S.), Ellie Kildunne (England), Portia Woodman-Wickliffe (New Zealand), and Nassira Konde (France). The dolls aim to encourage girls to own their confidence proudly and coincide with International Day of the Girl on Oct. 11. The Ilona Maher Barbie will be available in 2026 and introduces a new muscular sculpt designed to reflect athlete builds, with a straighter, more athletic torso, visibly defined arms, shoulders and legs, and sculpted core and back muscles. The initiative centers representation, breaking down gender stereotypes, and inspiring persistence and self-belief in young girls.
