"Body, space, surface."
"Like every designer, I know Cristóbal's work by heart,"
"But when I was introduced to the archive, when I had the chance to see and touch the clothes for the first time, I realised I was witnessing something truly different and extraordinary."
"I didn't want to imitate, but to transform his creation into something different. For me, as my first letter here in Balenciaga, I wanted to embrace the past of this house, because I"
Pierpaolo Piccioli engaged deeply with Cristóbal Balenciaga's legacy through the house archive, focusing on the concepts of body, space and surface. The show took place in Hôpital Laennec, linking Balenciaga's surgical cut and ceremonial couture to the hospital setting and its cross-shaped central chamber. Balenciaga's ateliers are moving back to Avenue George V. Piccioli aims to realign the house ideology by translating Cristóbal's original methodology into new creations rather than replicating historic shapes. Piccioli intends transformation over homage, studying, touching and reinterpreting archival garments to shape a contemporary couture language.
