"People of the Land is a portrait story about identity as protection—how self-guarding can trap us in fight-or-flight and disconnect us from ourselves. Moving from shadowed landscapes to hard urban edges, the story traces a shift from defence to recognition, where shared stories turn armour into connection."
"LaMont is a 26-year-old, North West London-raised, W1-based fashion model and music artist. Care-experienced (entered the UK care system at 16) and living with ADHD, he turns lived experience into creative practice across visuals and sound."
People of the Land is a portrait series rooted in the lived experience of entering the UK foster care system at age 16. The project examines identity as a form of protection, exploring how self-guarding mechanisms can trap individuals in fight-or-flight responses and create disconnection from their authentic selves. Through visual progression from shadowed landscapes to hard urban edges, the narrative traces a transformative shift from defensive posturing to recognition and vulnerability. The story demonstrates how shared narratives and human connection can convert protective armor into meaningful bonds. LaMont, a 26-year-old North West London-based fashion model and music artist, brings care-experienced perspective and ADHD lived experience to the project, translating personal narrative into creative visual and sonic practice.
