The sixth annual People's Ball took place at Brooklyn's Central Library, symbolizing accessible fashion for all, held on the eve of the exclusive Met Gala. With the motto "Style is a Revolution," around 1,200 attendees enjoyed an evening of creativity and individuality, featuring a runway show and celebrity hosts. Notable costume designer Ruth E. Carter highlighted the atmosphere of creativity, while first-time attendee Alan Alfred Liddell expressed excitement for the inclusive vibe, making it a celebration of artistry beyond the elite circles of traditional fashion events.
Carter, who won costume design Oscars for "Black Panther" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," said she could feel the creativity in the room. "That's where it's at. That's what you're feeling when you come here tonight."
Liddell said he loved the idea of a ball and gala for regular people, noting that the Met Gala is only for "certain" people. He told Brooklyn Paper he expected to see great fashion, artistry and creativity from the crowd.
