Abs, yarn, & attitude: Meet Caleb Channing, the man making crochet seriously sexy - Queerty
"Crocheting started as a pandemic hobby. My background is all creative. I have several design degrees and yearned for a creative outlet that was away from a computer screen."
"My mother, who crocheted while in and out of care homes, inspired me. Though I only truly embraced it after her passing. Later, following the end of a relationship, I returned to it more intentionally."
"I was going through a really hard time in my life and I needed something that grounded me and let me be alone with myself without feeling sad. What is the use of all this pain, sadness, and anger if there's no productive outlet?"
Caleb Channing, 35, is a UX designer from Philadelphia who has built an online following through his crochet business. He began crocheting during the pandemic as a creative outlet away from screens, inspired by his mother's crochet work and later embracing it more intentionally following personal challenges. Starting with coasters and amigurumi plushies, he used crochet as a healing mechanism during difficult life periods. He began selling designs and patterns last summer. His handmade products include various items, with crocheted underwear among his more attention-grabbing designs. As a self-described 'mostly gay' hunk, he models his own creations, which contributes to his growing online presence.
